A Weekend in Venice With Nicco

A Weekend in Venice With Nicco

We took a weekend off and went to Venice with our friend Nicco. No shoot list, no schedule, no plan beyond a vaporetto pass and somewhere to leave our bags. Just three days, slow mornings, and a city that doesn't reward anyone in a hurry.

The best trips are the ones where you stop trying to see everything. You just walk, and the city shows you what it wants to."

Coffee, then nothing

Coffee, then nothing

We started each day the same way. Espresso standing at the bar in a tiny place near the apartment, two euros, no rush. Nicco knows the city the way you know a friend's house. He'd point at a doorway and saythat's where to eat tonight, and we'd believe him. He was usually right.

We spent most of the weekend in the quieter sestieri. Cannaregio in the morning, Dorsoduro in the afternoon. Laundry strung between buildings, cats on doorsteps, a man fixing a boat in a courtyard who waved us through like we lived there. The light in Venice is unlike anywhere else. Soft, low, full of water.
